Richard Skinner - Furniture 2007

Richard Skinner traveled to Italy to visit the internationally renown Milan furniture fair and important Italian environmental and ethical designer Paulo Ulian, based in Northern Italy, near Milan. Richard also connected with leading designer for sustainable futures Ezio Manzini who heads the Design and Innovation for Sustainability Unit.

Michel Gigante - Sculptor 2005

Michele from Marano Lagoon, near Venice in Italy visited Hobart Tasmania in the early months of 2005 as a guest of the Tasmanian School of Art. Michele designed and created a light installation in the Atrium of the Henry Jones Art Hotel as part of the Ten Days On The Island arts festival.

Michele's works are a meditation on themes connected with 'journey'. The installation, First Step, created a journey through different experiences in perception of what is real and how that perception can change the personal view.

The Claudio Alcorso Foundation would like to thank the Tasmanian School of Art, Hobart City Council, Ten Days On The Island and The Henry Jones Art Hotel for their support in this project.

Nic Goodwolf  - Printmaker 2005

Nic travelled to Umbria Italy in May 2005 for study with a master printmaker, learning new skills and techniques to complement his already nationally acclaimed style. He followed this period of intensive learning with two months working in a specially set up print studio in Palermo.

Nic's inspiration comes from his personal experience of migration and establishing a new life. Since completing art school in 1999 he has set up and worked at the Tapir Print Workshop in Cygnet Tasmania.

Nic's residency in Italy has given him the opportunity to expand his technical experience and give him a level of professional development not available in Tasmania.

Andrea Morucchio - Glass Sculptor 2003

Andrea Morucchio our first artist in residence arrived in Hobart in late December 2002 to begin a three-month residency at the Tasmanian School of Art. Andrea is a Venetian glass sculptor who lives and works in Venice, Italy.

Andrea took an instant delight to Tasmania's wild spaces that inspired a desire to develop a creative act with a direct spiritual connection with nature and place. Thus was born Eidetic Bush a video installation at the Plimsoll Gallery, Centre for the Arts. Andrea's work tests and extends our understanding of place and nature exploring mystery and dynamism of the human creative impulse.

Andrea took part in the Ten Days On The Island Festival with an exhibit of his glass points Percer -voir which were spectacularly displayed under lights in the pond of the Royal Botanical Gardens, and he exhibited work at the Despard Gallery. Andrea made many friends in Hobart sharing much of his time with members of Tasmania's Italian community and meeting with the Italian Consulate General on his visit to Tasmania.
