Claudio Alcorso, a pre-eminent Australian of Italian descent made a significant contribution to the cultural, environmental and industrial life of his adopted country.

Claudio was a pioneer who left a heritage of innovation in industrial design, enterprise development and the establishment of the wine industry in Tasmania.

He was an enlightened patron of the Arts, his home provided a venue for musical performance, philosophical discussion and forums for those fortunate to have attracted his attention in matters of design, innovation, civic development and the environment. He was an enthusiastic sponsor and collector of Australian fine arts and crafts.

A strong believer in social justice and the environment, Claudio actively participated in the Franklin River Campaign and spoke at a Land Rights rally in front of Parliament House in support of Tasmanian Aborigines and their claims of small sites of special significance.

Claudio was well known as founder of Silk and Textile Printers, his association with the Elizabethan Theatre Trust and as founding Chairperson of the Australian Opera. In Tasmania, Claudio is perhaps best known for founding the successful Moorilla vineyard in Berriedale. www.moorilla.com.au
